Housed in the historic Pensacola City Hall, which was built in 1907, this fascinating museum offers a glimpse into the city’s past through its permanent and changing exhibits. From the eccentric charm of Trader Jon’s Bar to the captivating story of the City of Five Flags, there is so much to discover and learn. Check out the Illustrated History: A Selection of Dave Edwards Artwork and The Story of Us: From Curiosity Cabinets to Modern Museums, limited time exhibits through the end of May.

Pensacola Children’s Museum

If you’re traveling with children, be sure to visit the Pensacola Children’s Museum. Here, kids can interact and play in the Discovery Gallery, where historic houses are recreated in miniature. From guarding a fort to trading goods at the Post, there are endless opportunities for imaginative play. In the recreated one-room schoolhouse, children can experience education from over a hundred years ago. And with the immersive Publix Supermarket room, kids can shop for groceries or stock the shelves with their favorite foods. The Land & Sea gallery invites children to explore the connection between animals, nature, and humans, while the Medical Center exhibit allows them to experience various medical activities.

Historic House Tour

No visit to Pensacola Beach is complete without a historic house tour, exploring some of Pensacola’s oldest homes. Explore the Lear/Rocheblave House, a central element of the Historic Pensacola Village. This house, built in the 1890s, has been transformed over the years to provide visitors with a glimpse into Pensacola’s dynamic and cultural history of the 1920s. The first floor showcases a traditional historic house museum, while the second floor offers a new and exciting interpretation of the home.

Another highlight of the tour is the Lavalle House, a stunning example of French Creole Cottage construction. Built in 1805, this house transports visitors to frontier Pensacola during the last period of Spanish rule. Furnished with authentic 18th and 19th-century artifacts, the Lavalle House recreates the early 19th-century frontier lifestyle. From the two-room living unit to the restored bedroom-living room, this house offers a glimpse into the past.

Colonial Archaeological Trail

Recently updated and expanded as part of the Colonial Archaeological Trail Improvements project, this trail offers a fascinating glimpse into Pensacola’s historical treasures. Existing stops along the trail have been enhanced with new interpretive panels, protective fencing, and exhibit elements to provide visitors with a more immersive experience. Three new stops, including the Tivoli High House, Old Christ Church, and the Barkley House, have been added to the trail, offering insights into Pensacola’s colonial heritage. Don’t miss the opportunity to engage with our new interpretive sound posts located at St. Michael’s Cemetery, the Barkley House, and Historic Pensacola, enriching your journey with historical context and interactive content.

Fountain Park

South of Seville Square, Fountain Park calls you to indulge in moments of peace and reflection amidst its serene surroundings. This charming park features a beautiful fountain generously donated by the Fleming family, showcasing various scenes of Pensacola’s past and present. Once a bustling residential area in the late 1800s, with small shotgun houses lining the streets, Fountain Park underwent a transformation by the 1980s into the gorgeous space it is today. Fountain Park serves as a hub for community gatherings, downtown festivals, and special events, embodying the essence of Pensacola’s vibrant social scene.

Voices of Pensacola

Step into the past and explore the voices of Pensacola through captivating exhibits that illuminate the city’s rich history and cultural influences. “Lost Pensacola,” a poster exhibit created by Joe Vinson for his Public History capstone project, pays homage to the forgotten icons of Pensacola’s bygone era. Icons such as the San Carlos Hotel, the Spanish Village, and Spearman Brewing are commemorated in each poster, accompanied by historical background information and selected artifacts. Immerse yourself in the sounds of Pensacola’s jazz scene with the exhibit “Musically Inclined: A Look at the Pensacola Jazz Scene.” This exhibit celebrates the history and influence of jazz music along the Gulf Coast, shedding light on the contributions and legacy of this vibrant musical genre in the region.
